This colourless glass, with the irregular surface, characteristic of window glass is common to the 18th and 19th centuries, is made by the traditional Fourcault method which gives it the authentic wavy surface. Drawn glass offers the charm of restoration glass in larger sheet dimensions.

We supply for all sizes of project, from a single pane to complete stately homes.

For the best thermal efficiency, we also pair our Heritage  glass with a modern glass sheet, to create Heritage ECO Laminated sheets or slimline Heritage Double Glazed units. Please see below for more details on this.

The authenticity of Heritage Drawn 3 glass, with its mild surface distortions is only found in original window glass using the traditional drawn glassmaking process, ensuring the finest quality.

Our glazing is suitable for installing in stone mullion, steel, leaded windows and wooden window frames. All of our restoration glasses can be made into traditional leaded lights and the glass can also be used for repairs to existing traditional leaded lights.

We will advise you of the correct glazing choices for your project.

The same in every way as it’s sister product, the same price and technical specification as Heritage Drawn 3. The only difference is that Heritage Drawn 3+ has more visual movement in the surface. This means that you can visually match more accurately to other glass in any given building.

TATRAGLASS HERITAGE WAVY DRAWN SINGLE SHEET – an authentic heritage glass

In the 20th century, the industrial revolution allowed the mechanisation of glass production. Two processes emerged: the drawn glass and “float” glass processes.

Glass drawing produced a larger and more regular surface and was very popular between 1920 and 1960.

Since 1960 the “float” process has consisted of floating a strip of molten glass on top of a bath of molten tin. This produces glass of a very large format with a perfectly flat surface and uniform appearance, unlike this drawn glass.

Applications

Ideal for the restoration of Post-Victorian construction work.

As the name suggests, this glass has an average thickness of 3mm, making it light enough to use in traditional window structures.

As well as sash and fixed window applications, Heritage Drawn 3 can also be used to protect precious, leaded glazing from the elements and other adverse environmental conditions.

At 3mm thick, Heritage Drawn 3 and Heritage Drawn 3+ makes this sheet glass ideal for our ECO Laminated version, adding extra thermal values while still achieving a single pane (see the technical table below). This is helpful in conservation areas and where a building is Listed. Please speak with your local Conservation Officer to gain the relevant advice and permissions when choosing your glass. Our expert team will be able to give you initial advice to help when speaking with your Conservation Officer.

Our Heritage Drawn ECO Laminated range has the benefit of being classified as single glazing (also known as monolithic) and has environmental benefits of lowering heat loss because we pair the heritage glass of your choice with a hi-tech, high-thermal glass with UV filtering to protect fabrics against damaging UV rays.

Applications

Heritage Drawn Eco Laminated glass can be used with new and existing joinery work within traditional and historic Victorian buildings, private houses, hotels and apartments.

Fitting into the narrowest of window rebates, Heritage Drawn Eco Laminated is ideal for Victorian properties. Lightweight, allowing sash mechanisms to be retained, maintaining the authentic historic glass texture externally while reducing heat-loss, and cutting energy bills.

When using Laminated glass in sash window units, it is important to check the weights as they may need to be increased within the window frame to allow the window to work correctly.

Please speak to our team for advice on fixing methods, and use of the correct putty, which we can also supply.

Authentic heritage glass with added thermal and acoustic qualities.

The modern glass that we laminate the historic glass to has a special coating on it called Low E, which reflects heat back into the room and keeps harmful UV rays out while allowing heat from the sun into the room.

This unique system for replacing single glazing on pre-Victorian period properties is recommended by planning authorities in even the most sensitive conservation areas.

The laminated glass is made up of 2 sheets of glass laminated together to create a single, technically advanced sheet. The outer side is an authentic glass with the gentle waviness and imperfections expected, and the inside surface is the modern glass with it’s thermal benefits and the lamination process itself gives acoustic benefits.

Our Heritage Double Glazed range has the same benefits and characteristics of our ECO Laminate range, with the added benefit of even better protection against heat loss, which is achieved using gas fill to the unit. As a slimline conservation grade Double Glazed unit, units start from 10mm overall thickness and they are suitable for narrow rebate windows while retaining the external appearance of period glass.

SLIMLINE HERITAGE DOUBLE GLAZING, offering the maximum eco thermal and noise reduction benefits.

Our Heritage Double Glazed range has the same benefits and characteristics of our ECO Laminate range, with the even better thermal properties due to gas fill options and it is a slimline conservation grade Double Glazed unit, measuring in at only 12mm with low sight lines (suitable for narrow rebates) and suitable for so many more historic windows.

The glass that we pair with our Heritage glass in slim double-glazed units has a special coating called Low E. It bounces heat back into the room and keeps harmful rays (which are responsible for fading furniture) out, while allowing heat from the sun into the room.

Applications

CASE STUDIES:

Heritage Drawn Glass has been used in countless restoration projects throughout the UK. Here is a glimpse of just some of the buildings which have used Tatraglass for their authentic restoration glass.

  • 55-91 Knightsbridge was built in 1902

  • Spanning a staggering 120m in length, and covering an entire block of busy Knightsbridge, this exquisite Grade II listed building has undergone a recent and sympathetic redevelopment.

  • This distinguished building was one of London’s first retail promenades

  • Restored with Tatraglass Heritage Drawn glass with applied lead work throughout.

Please note. All of our restoration glass types are manufactured using the traditional methods. It is intended for these products to be used for restoration, where modern float glass would give an inappropriate appearance. We cannot guarantee against small marks, seeds (bubbles), small surface scratches and surface distortion in this glass, which are not faults but characteristics of the product, which is designed to blend in with old or original period glass.

This type of glass cannot be compared to float glass, which is mass produced using modern manufacturing processes, and is virtually perfect in its appearance.
